I’m Misa… I do believe we can have all that we desire. The key is knowing what you really want and following the signs your inner being gives you to lead you to your desires. It’s important to recognize that the end goal is not the purpose of life. Life is all about the journey. The people we meet, the experiences we have, and how we interact with these is what makes up our lives. What we want today will most likely change over the course of time. We adapt and evolve depending on who and what we encounter in our environments. Just like the seasons in nature, the seasons of our lives have a flow and rhythm that shift as we grow our conscious awareness. The basis of all of my work is the system of the Chinese 5 elements and Taoist principles. I went through several majors in college before graduating from Louisiana State University with a BA in Communication Disorders in 1995. I love learning, but traditional school was not always fun for me. I’ve always been a little different. What I really love studying wasn’t taught in any university I knew. I had many intelligent and kind professors but, finding my “real” teachers came after leaving my hometown. About 2 months after graduating from LSU, I left my hometown of New Orleans and headed to Fukuoka, Japan to teach English on the JET Programme. My plan was to live in Japan for one year and then return to LSU to work on a Master’s degree in speech-language pathology. That one year in Japan stretched into three years and I let go of the idea of becoming a speech-language pathologist. He was a Shiatsu practitioner and worked with the energy of the body, mind, and spirit. He wanted to practice English so we traded Shiatsu classes for English conversation. He became paramount in my life’s journey. Mr. Oyama taught me how to sense energy in the body. He introduced me to the system of the Chinese 5 elements and how food influences health. He was such a wise soul! I was fascinated with all of this new information and I enjoyed practicing Shiatsu so much that I decided to pursue bodywork when I returned to the US in 1998. Side note: Mr. Oyama’s name translated into English is Grand Mountain.
